Contractors Finding qualified contractors for your interior renovation can be very difficult. It is often difficult to determine which contractors you need, and which work you can do yourself. Start by making an assessment of your skills and talents. Is there work thay you would like to do yourself? By doing your own painting and general cleanup, you can save lots of money. For those other, more specialized jobs, you may need to hire a contractor. One of the best ways to find a good contractor is by word of mouth. Ask friends and neighbor's who they have used in the past, and if they had a good experience. There are some associations like Angie's List that keep a database of contractors with high recommendations. Also check with the better business bureau to see if they have a clean customer service record. One other suggestion is to ask the contractor for referrals of work they have done. Hearing first hand from people who they have done work for is a great way to know. Always get things in writing from your contractor to be sure that they will hold up their end of the deal. You can always use these documents in court if you ever have a dispute. Be sure to get multiple quotes, so that you know you aren't getting ripped off. It's a good idea to meet different contractors to learn their different skills and experiences. Other Great Links: |
